Extra Credit #2: Sun Rise, Sun Set and Length of Daylight; Due Feb. 18, 2000

This exercise will look at how the time of the sunrise and sunset changes for
different locations, Sydney, Honolulu, Tucson, Fairbanks. Using tables listing the time
of sunrise and sunset for each day of the year 2000 that were obtained from the
Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
calculate the length of daylight (the difference between the time of sunset and sunrise) for
the dates Feb. 14, 21, 28, Mar. 6, 13, 20, 27, Apr. 3, 10, 17.

Data for

Sydney
Honolulu
Tucson
Fairbanks

Note that the times listed are in the format of Hour,Minutes using a 24 hour clock.
For example, on Feb. 10 the time of sunset is given as 1805 which can also be written as 18:05.
The sunrise time for that day is 0711 or 7:11. The length of time between the sunrise and sunset
is then,
 length of daylight = 18:05 - 7:11 = 10 hours and 54 minutes

This year the spring equinox is March 20. For Tucson, how does the value
you have computed for the length of daylight compare to that was presented
 in class?
