Every semester there are students that end up right on the borderline between two grades.  I will find that a small number of these students didn’t complete all of the required course work.  If  it looks like making up the missing work would raise a student’s overall average enough for me to be able to give them the higher of two letter grades, I would like to be able to give them an incomplete so that they would have the opportunity to make up the missing work.
